Optical Engineer  Full Time

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to all phases of systems engineering for imaging and targeting systems, including concept definition, system architecture, requirements development, radiometric systems design & analysis, components selection, optical engineering/design, prototype testing, and performance verification.
• Develop requirements, specifications, and test plans with a focus on optical systems and integration.
• Conduct range and optical analyses, and guide optical systems development and camera selection.
• Lead and participate in optical systems design, simulation, development, manufacturing, and testing (focusing on lenses and detectors) across various wavelengths.
• Complete optical component design cycle from concept generation, requirements analysis, design, simulation, manufacturing, testing, and validation.
• Lead and support laboratory testing and qualification efforts for optical systems and sensor products.
• Develop assembly plans and calibration procedures for optical products.
• Generate supporting data packs and artifacts for designed optical components.
• Create and deliver technical papers, reports, and proposals to internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide mentoring, technical oversight, and task delegation as appropriate.

Experience and Education

• Minimum 7+ years of experience in optics design and manufacturing, with deep involvement in optical component design cycles (from simulation to production).
• Master’s degree in Optics Engineering/Optical Sciences, or Physics – PhD preferred.

Key Skills

• Expertise in complex optical designs, including fixed and moving reflective and refractive elements.
• Familiarity with radiometric analysis tools (e.g., NVTHERM/NV-IPM, MODTRAN).
• Proficiency in optical design/analysis tools such as ZEMAX (preferred).
• Skilled in using standard optics laboratory equipment, including optical benches, lasers, photodetectors, spectrometers, and autocollimators for conducting measurements, performance analysis, and testing.
• Experience in optical measurements/alignment of complex optical systems, designing metrology measurements, and optical analysis & design of multi-sensor imaging systems.
