Job Description
- Respond quickly to a patient’s or their family’s request for assistance, keeping in mind that patient safety and satisfaction come first.
- Attend the call bell in the department or any other alarm in the patient’s room and report to the nurse accordingly.
- Conduct hourly patient rounding, following up on patient comfort and any assistance needed.
- Receive non-clinical responsibilities each shift from the nurse.
- Assist the nurse with a patient’s hygiene, elimination, mobility, physical comfort, eating, and drinking needs while observing and reporting any specific changes to the licensed nurse.
- Clean the trolleys used before and after patient care and replace all consumables used.
- Assist nurses in obtaining a patient’s height and weight measurements.
- Effectively assist nurses in maintaining patient elimination.
- Know the hospital’s approved disinfectants and their indications for usage in their department.
- Clean biomedical equipment in accordance with the policy of NMC RH Khalifa City.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness in all areas, including patient rooms and the nursing station, by ensuring that surfaces, computers, and phones are cleaned daily and regularly throughout the shift.
- Collaborate with the housekeeping team to maintain the cleanliness of the department and the kids’ play area.
- Check hand sanitizers at the beginning of the shift and inform housekeeping when they need replacement.
- Liaise with nurses and patients in an OPD setting to support patient satisfaction and provide updates on bed availability and waiting times.
- Replace sharp containers when two-thirds full or when the expiry date is due, as per hospital policy.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the soiled utility room and collaborate with the laundry department when hampers are full, maintaining a record of all linen (type and quantity).
- Collect clean linen from the laundry.
- Assist in maintaining supply and storage areas, ensuring regular cleaning of supply boxes based on department routine or at least once a month.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the pantry and collaborate with the nurse and dietary team to ensure no extra trays are kept if not needed.
- Transport specimens to the laboratory.
- Comply with patient confidentiality as per hospital policy.
- Act as a messenger as required.
- Escort stable patients by wheelchair or assist nurses with bed transport to and from the Radiology Department and other departments, as well as assist in transporting patients to the operation theatre.
- Accompany discharged patients to the exit point and assist them safely into their cars; maternity patients should be transported by wheelchair.
- Assist nursing staff in preparing/cleaning a patient’s room for admission or discharge by ensuring that all necessary supplies, such as tissue paper and water (if allowed), are provided.
- Report to the nurse or in-charge any lost or broken items/equipment when cleaning the room after discharge.
- Ensure biomedical equipment is cleaned after discharge, returned in good condition to the equipment room, and plugged in.
- Ensure oxygen cylinders are properly arranged and fixed in their stands, reporting to nurses when empty.
- Check all department rooms daily and complete the daily environment checklist.
- Maintain a record of all borrowed items and follow up with the concerned department to return them when done to prevent loss.
- Transport instruments for sterilization to CSSD following item count by nurses and collect sterilized items from CSSD.
- Check monthly CSSD sets for expiry dates and report any damage to packaging.
- Ensure curtains in the department are well-maintained and sent for washing as per hospital policy, maintaining a record and ensuring extra curtains are available for replacement.
- Collect general and stationary items from the store and medications from the pharmacy.
- Participate in scheduled educational activities.
- Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures, cooperating with hospital management to meet requirements.
- Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures and specific responsibilities.
- Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
- Be familiar with patient safety goals applicable to daily activities.
- Notify nurses of OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, or any concerns.
- Comply with waste management and transmission-based precaution policies and procedures.
- Work together with nurses for the completion of departmental inventories.
- Attend applicable OSH/infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness programs.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Some High school or Equivalent
Intermediate English skills preferred. Spoken Arabic advantageous.
Demonstrate motivation to work in a health care environment.
